Published in 1923, “Bambi, the Story of a Life in the Woods” is a novel by the Austrian writer Felix Salten. It follows Bambi, a young deer, from birth to adulthood, through the seasons, encounters with other animals and the dangers represented in particular by hunters. The book addresses learning, loss, survival and the place of humans in nature. Disney's animated adaptation, released in 1942, widely popularized the character. The story does not tell of the construction of a logging company run by a large deer.
