In “Alice's Adventures in Wonderland”, published in 1865, Alice meets the Hatter, the March Hare and the Dormouse over tea that never seems to end. The scene multiplies riddles, changes of place and absurd reasoning. The “non-birthday” however appears in “Through the Looking Glass”, where Humpty Dumpty explains that there are more non-birthday days than birthdays. The Disney animated adaptation merged this idea with the Hatter's Tea, which explains the frequent confusion.
