Hydropower uses the flow or fall of water to drive turbines connected to generators. Large dams, run-of-river installations and certain small power plants provide controllable or relatively regular production depending on the site. Globally, hydropower remains the leading source of renewable electricity, even if wind and solar power are progressing rapidly. This position concerns electricity production.
