Richie Hawtin is a major figure in minimal techno, also known as Plastikman. Active since the end of the 1980s between Canada, Detroit and the international scene, he has explored the possibilities offered by drum machines, software, controllers and immersive delivery systems. His projects have contributed to bringing together performance, electronic composition and technology. He has also developed tools and formats intended for DJs. However, he did not invent the DJ set as an artistic performance: the practices of selection, mixing and performance by DJs existed several decades before his career.
