Who obtained a major American patent for the telephone in 1876 and made a famous demonstration of it?
Correct answer Alexander Graham Bell
Fact
Did you know?
Alexander Graham Bell was granted a major American patent on March 7, 1876, relating to the electrical transmission of speech. Three days later, he uttered the now famous phrase asking his assistant Thomas Watson to join him. Bell then developed devices and participated in the creation of telephone companies. The history of the invention is nevertheless disputed and collective: Antonio Meucci had worked on previous devices, Elisha Gray filed a declaration of intent on the same day and other researchers contributed the necessary components. It is therefore more precise to present Bell as the holder of a decisive patent and great promoter of the telephone than as the sole undisputed inventor.
