Who painted “The Starry Night”?

Correct answer Vincent van Gogh

Fact

Did you know?

Vincent van Gogh painted “The Starry Night” in June 1889 while he was staying at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum, in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The landscape is based in part on the east-facing view from his room, which he observed at several times of the day. However, he strongly transformed the scene: the village and its bell tower are imagined, while the swirling sky organizes the composition. Van Gogh created the painting in the studio and not directly during the night. Now held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, it has become one of his most famous works.
