What is the largest coral reef system in the world?
Correct answer Great Barrier Reef
Fact
Did you know?
The Great Barrier Reef stretches more than 2,000 kilometers off the coast of Queensland, Australia. It includes thousands of reefs and hundreds of islands, making it the largest reef system on the planet. It is home to a great diversity of corals, fish, molluscs, turtles and marine mammals. However, ocean warming causes repeated episodes of bleaching which weaken its ecosystems. Its exceptional size does not mean that it alone has the highest marine diversity: the Coral Triangle in Southeast Asia is generally recognized as the global center of diversity for reef-building corals.
