Colca Canyon lies in the southern Peruvian Andes within a landscape shaped by volcanoes, faults, glaciers and rivers. It forms part of the UNESCO Global Geopark called “Colca and Volcanoes of Andagua”, which also includes the remarkable concentration of volcanic cones in the Andagua valley. The region combines geological heritage with agricultural terraces, villages and pre-Hispanic traditions. Colca ranks among the world’s broadest and deepest canyons. Its high cliffs are also known as habitat for Andean condors, which visitors can often watch soaring on rising air currents.
