Werner Heisenberg formulated matrix mechanics in 1925, one of the first complete mathematical formulations of quantum mechanics. Max Born and Pascual Jordan quickly contributed to developing this approach. At the same time, Erwin Schrödinger proposed wave mechanics, whose equivalence with the matrix formulation was then established. Max Planck introduced the idea of quanta, Einstein applied it to light and Niels Bohr to the atomic model. Dirac, Pauli and other physicists further completed the theory. Quantum mechanics cannot therefore be attributed to a single scientist, even if Heisenberg played a central role.
