The jackfruit produces very large fruits that can weigh several dozen kilograms. When ripe, its yellow flesh is sweet and aromatic; when harvested young, it remains more neutral and has a fibrous texture. After cooking and shredding, this texture can be reminiscent of certain meat preparations, which explains its use in vegetarian dishes. Jackfruit easily absorbs sauces, marinades and spices, including smoky flavors added by the recipe. It therefore does not naturally taste like smoked meat. Its seeds are also edible when properly cooked.
